How to do Bhadrasana / Butterfly Pose

  • Sit down with your legs stretched forward.
  • Draw your feet towards you and place the heels together.
  • Hold your toes with your fingers and draw your feet closer to the perineum.
  • With exhalation, bend forward and place your forehead on the floor. You can still hold your toes or place your palms together as in Salutation Pose and place your forearms on the floor.

Benefits of Butterfly Pose

  • Cures incontinence
  •  Aids in treating kidney related conditions
  • Helps to cure breathing disorders
  • Strengthens the legs, tones highs and improves hip flexibility
  • Activates root chakra
  • Pregnant women can practice this yoga regularly to aid in easy birth. However, they should not attempt to bend forward. They should sit straight with the heels closer to the body without applying force.
  • Relieves sciatic conditions and it is good for varicose vein
  • Aids in curing menstrual disorders
  • Calms the mind

Note

People with severe knee conditions should not practice this pose. Pregnant women should not bend forward and should remain seated without applying force.
